Story

Following the rise of online shopping and still feeling the aftermath of the pandemic, South Tyneside Council wanted to spark new life into South Shields town centre and let the local community have their say in what that might look like. We were appointed to develop a regeneration conversation that residents wanted to partake in.

A conversation represents the values of listening, having a voice, building relationships and providing insights and informed decision-making which is what the council was seeking.

We applied the same principles when designing the campaign survey. We kept things conversational asking open-ended questions on what residents wanted to see in their town, rather than presenting them with a tick-list of foregone conclusions.

The survey was housed on a campaign website, and presented to the people of South Shields by on-street teams via door-to-door leaflet drops and paid social media activity that geo-targeted local people.

The campaign proved to be a huge success – attracting 30% more responses than originally targeted and providing South Tyneside Council with strong insight for the development of its masterplan.
